Special EventsPosted by Darren Mon, August 16, 2010 10:11AMFor those interested (including myself) there is an unconference in Birmingham on the 16th October. As of yet there are no prices listed but as it's a single day event they will hopefully be quite low.
It's being held at the Birmingham & Midland Institute, for more information check out the website at:

Special EventsPosted by Jellybeanz Tue, June 22, 2010 09:39AMVCF 2010 was excellent! There where a number of very interesting talks including ZX Spectrum ULA by Chris Smith, Colossus by Tony Sale, 1970's and 1980's mainframes and a Retro gaming competition.
There wasalso Bombe demonstrations... Just look at the drip tray on this!
I really hope that we get more takers if the Vintage Computer Festival runs again next year. There will be a retro gaming even in Coalville in October this year if anyone is interested.
You can see more photo's in the Derby LUG Gallery VCF 2010 album.
MembersPosted by James Tait Mon, June 14, 2010 11:16PMA computer programmer and utter, unapologetic geek, originally from Mansfield but now living and working in Derby. My 11-year (at the time of writing) professional career has encompassed systems administration, service desk, network engineer, web developer and programming in languages including C, C++, Java, Python, HTML and JavaScript on various flavours of Windows, Novell Netware, UNIX and Linux.
My first taste of Linux was Slackware '96 in 1997. I still have the SAMS book and CDROM on my bookshelf! After many years tweaking that and hand-compiling packages until it no longer resembled Slackware, somebody from this very LUG convinced me to try Debian Woody. At the time I was also running Red Hat (6?) on my wife's machine, but after progressing to the Testing and Unstable flavours of Debian I was so impressed with dpkg and so frustrated with RPM that I considered installing Debian for her too. Around that time, a little-known Debian-based distribution called Ubuntu came along, my wife became a guinea pig and I ended up installing it on all my machines and eventually contributing to the project.
I have two boys and amongst other things we like to go out walking, cycling, geocaching and contributing to OpenStreetMap. In the evenings, when everyone else is tucked up in bed sleeping, I disappear into my den for a few hours and get up to geek stuff - currently, this means spending time hacking on Hedera, a Thunderbird extension to synchronise contacts with DesktopCouch.
